UPSC Exams 2017: Union Public Service Commission is a constitutional body that recruits candidates for civil services and posts of Indian Government. The Commission conducts examinations for new recruitment, promotion, deputation, and absorption into the services of the Union. The aspirants who are recruited are offered posting in various services including the following –UPSC Exams

  • Indian Administrative Service – IAS
  • Indian Police Service – IPS
  • Indian Foreign Service – IFS
  • Combined Defence Services
  • Indian Revenue Service – IRS
  • Central Armed Police Forces
  • Indian Forest Service
  • National Defence Academy & Naval Academy
  • Engineering Services, etc.,

UPSC Calendar

Examination Pattern UPSC Exams 2017:

  • The UPSC exams are conducted in two stages – Preliminary Examinations and Main Examinations.
  • Preliminary Exams would have on multiple choice objective type questions.
  • The Main Exams test subject comprehension along with general intelligence.
  • The syllabus and skills for Prelims and Mains include – English/Hindi language skills, General Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, Numerical and Quantitative skills, History , Geography, Communication skills, etc.,
  • The exams are qualifying in nature and short listed candidates move to the interview stage of selection process.

SSC Calendar 2017

Civil Services Examination:

Educational Qualification : Bachelor degree holders as well as final year candidates awaiting their results can apply for the preliminary exam. Candidates should be able to produce their degree certificate at the time of Main examination. Exception may be provided to those without requisite qualification provided they have other qualification of reputed standard.

Age Limit : Candidates have to be between 21 to 32 years of age as of August 1. Relaxation in upper age limits is provided to candidates from reservation categories. Candidates from SC, ST, Commissioned Officer, Ex-Servicemen quota receive 5 years. BC and Defence Personnel receive 3 years. People with disabilities receive 10 years of relaxation in age limits.

Selection Process – Preliminary and Main Exams, Interviews

National Defence Academy – NDA Examination:

Educational Qualification : Candidates for Army Wing require 10 + 2 or 12th or Equivalent exam. Candidates for Air Force, Navy Wings and Indian Naval Academy cadet entry scheme require 10 +2 or 12th or equivalent with Physics and Math subjects. Candidates appearing for 12th or awaiting their results can also apply.

Age Limit : Candidates have to be between 16 to 19 years of age. Indian nationals who are unmarried, physically fit, without ailments, and who are of minimum specified height and weight are eligible.

Selection Process: Written exam, personal interview, medical examination.

Combined Defence Services Examination – CDSE:

Educational Qualification : Candidates for Air Force and Naval Academies should have graduate degree  i.e. BE/B Tech/BSc – Math/Physics. For the Military/Officers Training Academy, candidates require degree from recognised university.

Age Limit :Candidates have to be between 19 to 24 years of age for Military Academy posting. Naval Academy training requires 19 to 22 year old candidates. Air Force Academy posting requires candidates who are between 19 and 23 years in age. Officers Training Academy requires candidates who are between 19 and 25 years in age as on June 2 of examination year.

Selection Process: Written exam followed by personal interview.

Engineering Services Examination – ESE:

Educational Qualification: Graduates from Engineering streams i.e. BE/B Tech from recognised universities and institutes. Higher qualifications like ME/M Tech are also acceptable.

Age Limit: The candidates have minimum and maximum age limits of 21 and 30 years respectively. Date of reckoning age limits is 1st August of the examination year. The upper age limit relaxation for OBC and SC/ST candidates are 3 yrs and 5 yrs respectively.

Number Of Attempts: The Exam can be attempted 4 or 7 times by General or OBC candidates respectively. SC/ST candidates have no limits on the number of exam attempts.

Nationality: Indian nationals are free to apply for the examination.

Selection Process: Written exams and interview. The first paper in written exam tests general abilities. The remaining papers test the candidate’s’ engineering discipline skills using multiple choice questions and conventional tests.

Combined Medical Services Examination – CMSE

Educational Qualification: Theory and practical MBBS passed candidates are eligible. Aspirants who appeared for final year or yet to appear for final year can also take the entrance provided they can produce the certificate at a later stage. Candidates who have not completed internship can also take the exam but have to complete internship for selection. All aspirants have to be medically and physically fit.

Age Limit: The candidates have maximum age limit of 32 years. Date of reckoning age limits is 1st January of the examination year. The upper age limit relaxation for OBC and SC/ST/ECP/SSCO/Ex-Servicemen candidates are 3 yrs and 5 yrs respectively. People with disabilities receive up to 10 years in maximum age relaxation.

Nationality: Indian nationals are free to apply for the examination.

Selection Process: Computer based written test followed by interview/personality test. Selected candidates are posted in Railways, Health Centres, Ordnance Factory Health Services, Municipality Hospitals, etc.,
