What is GATE?

GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is conducted in eight different zones across India. IIT Roorkee is mainly responsible for the all the functioning activities of the examination. The seven other institutions who are the part of the commission are Delhi, Kharagpur, Guwahati, Madras, and Bombay IITs. They are conducting the test on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, National Coordinating Board, and Department of Education for the engineering graduates who want to seek admission in IITs IISC for the Post graduation. Some the PSUs also recruit candidates depending on their GATE score card for their different departments.

In this test, out of 23 papers the aspirants has to appear for the only one depending on their qualifying degree. Of course they have the right to choose any paper but it should be related to the eligibility criteria of the institution they want to get admission. GATE 2017 examinations will  be conducted in Ethiopia, Singapore, Bangladesh,, Sri Lanka Nepal and United Arab Emirates. The

How To Apply GATE 2017:

The application is of online mode so the candidates have to apply online.The candidates who are going to apply for the GATE 2017 has to register first in the portal then only he/she can access the online application form. Here we try to compile all the required steps for the applying online.

  1. Visit the online application link and login with your credentials
  2. Fill up all the required information like personal and educational
  3. Upload all the relevant certificates photo, thumb impression and the signature
  4. Check all the information entered by you again
  5. Then click the submit button
  6. Then you will be directed to the payment  GATE 2017 way to pay the fee by debit card or by net banking or by e-challan.
  7. Take a print of the receipt copy which is generated online

Photograph and Signature Requirements for Gate 2017:

The candidates have to upload the photograph and the signature according to the specification given in the notification of the examination otherwise the application may be considered invalid.

  • Photograph Specification
  1. A colored passport size photograph and should be taken in a professional studio.  It should not be older than 01/09/2016
  2. Background  must be white.
  3. 75% of the area of the photograph should be occupied by the face
  4. Photo should be in  JPEG format and also on a standard 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm (Width x Height) print.
  5. Max. pixel resolution for JPEG: 480 × 640 (0.3 Mega pixel) and Min. pixel resolution for JPEG: 240 × 320.
  • Signature Specifications
  1. First of all a  draw a rectangular box of size 2 cm × 7 cm on a white paper. Then do the signature inside box. The signature should be with blue 0r black ink pen other colors will not be entertained and you can face problem like discarding your application
  2. Scanning of the signature should be professional
  3. The image of the signature should be JPEG format and the Max. Pixel : 160 × 560 and the Min. pixel: 80 × 280.
  • Thumb Impression Specifications
  1. First of all a  draw a rectangular box of size 2 cm × 7 cm on a white paper. Then do the thumb impression inside box. The impression should be with blue 0r black ink pen other colors will not be entertained and you can face problem like discarding your application
  2. Scanning of the impression should be professional

GATE 2017 Exam Pattern:

The candidates are appearing any one of the two paper: XE or XL

A candidate who is  appearing XE paper they has to attempt the following

  • Section A – Engineering Mathematics
  • Any two of XE sections B to H
  • GA – General Aptitude

A candidate who is appearing XL paper they has to attempt the following

  • Any two of XL sections Q to U
  • Section P– Chemistry
  • GA – General Aptitude
Total duration of the exam 3hrs
Total number of questions 65
Total marks 100
  • Out this 65 question 10 question is for general aptitude
  • Marks allotted for the General aptitude is 15
  • Questions are objective in nature and carrying 1or 2 marks each.
  • Negative Marking: 1/3 rd mark will be cut for the wrong answer for the question which is carrying 1marks
  • 1/4th mark will be cut for the wrong answer for the question which is carrying 2 marks. Candidate can attempt all the numerical answer type question without any fear of negative marking as there is no negative mark for any wrong answer in this section.

NTPC, NHPC, GAIL, CONCOR, BEL, MECON, DDA, HECL, BEL, ONGC, IOCL, PGCIL, BHEL, BPCL, HPCL etc companies are showing interest to recruit the GATE 2017 qualified candidates.
